The Power of Beliefs
What you believe about yourself is POWERFUL! In Romans 12:2, Paul the mastermind says, "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." Paul is telling us that we grow and mature by changing our thought patterns, not by changing our behaviors.
Many have been taught to go after change by buckling down, being more disciplined, and trying harder. Although there is value to discipline and effort when applied with the correct mindset, it is not the solution that will produce long-term change. The thoughts and beliefs that you have about yourself will determine your reality. For instance, if you consistently say, "I am always failing", your brain will search out times when you fail because that is who you have been telling yourself you are. You will begin acting out of that reality, which then leads you to developing habits that are aligned with being a failure.
I think it was Bill Johnson who said, "Just because something is true, doesn't make it truth." If you are struggling with a fear, addiction, or anything in your life that you wish to change, change by declaring truth OUT LOUD over yourself- your brain needs to hear that you are telling it to start believing something that is in disagreement with the lie it has been agreeing with for far too long. Believing lies about your identity is actually making agreements with the devil, and I think most would admit, that's ALWAYS A BAD PLAN!
Satan is terrified that followers of Jesus will discover the truth of who they are- powerful Sons & Daughters of Father God! Satan is not really all that concerned if believers go to church multiple times a week, but he is however, very scared that we will recognize and renounce his lies, and come into agreement with the truth of who God says we are.
Be ENCOURAGED that as you start declaring truth and heavenly identity over yourself, COURAGE, JOY, HOPE, AND PEACE will rise up inside of you, and as Paul says, "you will be transformed into a new person!"
