New Year, New...You?
Written by Jared Capello
We are over a week into the new year! How is it going so far? I just wanted to offer some helpful pointers to stay the course for every new commitment that you’ve made to yourself and perhaps to others as well.
#1. Be gracious! I cannot state this enough as you move toward whatever your goals may be. If you fall short one day on your goal beating yourself up over it will only bring about feelings of guilt and shame. These can be motivators but are never the right kind. Instead, notice how and where you fell short and make the adjustments necessary moving forward. Side note here, being gracious with yourself is not being lenient! You know what you are capable of and don’t settle for less by lowering your standard or not following through.
#2. Stay disciplined. Arrival at your goal will rarely happen overnight. As you begin moving toward your goal, note the improvements you make and celebrate them often. Even if they seem little and insignificant, celebrate them. Give them a full 10 seconds of recognition at the least. As you begin to make small improvements and adjustments to your behavior, past non-beneficial mindsets will start losing their grip. Stay the course and…
#3. Trust the process. Hopefully you have a process and you’re not just wingin’ it, “trying” to do better or be better this year than you were last year. Whatever process you’ve chosen, trust it, especially if it’s a tested and proven process. Don’t be like the little kid who wants to be measured every day to see if they’ve grown only to be disappointed when they don’t see any growth. Growth is happening even when you can’t see it. Negative, limiting things are being worked out as good, empowering things are being worked in. Trust the process.
#4. Enjoy your goals. Have fun! Your goals are far more likely to be achieved if you can find ways to continually enjoy them. Set the process and game up for you to win by making your action steps enjoyable. For instance, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds by the 31st and you’ve been hitting the gym every morning since the 1st (or 2nd) and you’re beginning to lose that initial excitement, make something about getting up early fun. Maybe set your alarm to your favorite song or to a song that makes you laugh. Try implementing smiling into your workouts in 15 minute intervals. If other people look at you like you’re crazy, great! That will give you even more to laugh about keeping your workout routine from becoming mundane.
Those are just a few simple things you can try out to keep you on course as 2019 cruises along into another week. If you would like additional ideas or support please feel free to contact me by simply responding to this email.
It is my greatest joy in life to serve others so if I can be of any further service to you please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Until next time Live the Love you were created from!
Forever Loving,
Jared
