I Was Wrong

Written by Beau Hoffman

I was wrong about God,
He isn’t an abusive Father, He is radically forgiving;
He isn’t angry and retributive, He is perfect Love;
He isn’t withdrawn or distanced based on our conduct, He is steadfast in His love for us;
He doesn’t demand punishment, but in Jesus bore the punishment to which we condemned Him, and responded with love;
He doesn’t harm us, He works all things for our good;
He isn’t displeased with us, but forgave and loved even his murderers.

I was wrong about myself,
I’m not totally depraved, but I’ve been made righteous in God’s own image and likeness;
I’m not abandoned and alone, God showed me that I am accepted and made whole through Christ;
I’m not tested and harmed, I’m protected and empowered;
I’m not at risk of His wrath, He guides me to avoid the harmful consequences of my actions;
I am not doomed to repeat evil, I’m taught to respond with grace instead of perpetuating violence and hatred;
I am not a child of darkness, I am a Child of God in whom there is only light.
