Ram Dass Says...

I've been listening to Ram Dass the past few days while I've been landscaping. He said something that really struck me: Life on Earth as a human being should be viewed as an opportunity to evolve (my poor paraphrase).

I feel like I'm not doing justice to what he said, but basically the point he was making is that as eternal beings, we have existed before our human experience and will continue to exist when we die...thus, the purpose of the human experience is to help us evolve in our consciousness. He commented how everything in life can teach us something, especially the challenging times. Ram Dass believes that accepting and not resisting what life hands us is a key to thriving in this human experience.

I like this outlook. In my experience, the more I resist, the more frustrated I become. Being open to change and challenges and surprises has helped me to cope in life much better than the alternative. I still struggle with this all the time. I resist slow drivers. I resist boring conversations. I resist performing a task a new way. Patterns are comfortable...comfort is comfortable. But life is not. Life is full of surprises and change. That is inevitable.

I guess I like Ram's perspective because it brings more vitality to every aspect in life-- relationships, work, random happenings. If it all has a purpose, it all matters because every moment has the ability to be extremely meaningful, or better said: full of meaning.

Rob Bell likes to say, "Everything is spiritual." Sounds like he's saying the same thing as Ram Dass. So...what is happening RIGHT NOW in your life that could be super beneficial to you, even if it feels sucky or hard?? Maybe it's something that you've thought of as trivial, maybe as suffering, or maybe as epic. Try your best to not resist life and instead ACCEPT. Realize that each and every moment in life has the potential to change your life.

Hopefully I was able to encourage you in your life journey. Thanks for reading. Grace & Peace.
