The Intoxication of the Incarnation
"And so we have the drama of the cross in context: the man Jesus Christ who is fully God, becomes fully man to the extent of willingly dying humanity's death at the hands of his own creation. He embraced the curse and shame of the lowest kind in dying a criminal's death." Philippians 2:8 (The Mirror Bible)
In Christ, God intertwined Himself with humanity forever. Christ came to earth to be the Perfect Substitutionary Man-- fulfilling the law, dying our death, and raising to life...for us, AS us. Mankind's Father showed us His true nature by shining Light on our darkened understanding, which was passed down from Adam. We bought into deceptions by believing, "God is distant and upset. I need to fix myself to please Him."
THUS the Incarnation, God becoming Man. Mr. Light coming to shine truth on such lies, to show us what God is really like.
Shame blinds people. It produces false mindsets that cause a person to hide through self-isolation. Shame leads one to believe it's better to impress people than to connect through vulnerability and honesty. We even hide from God. "He can't really accept me as I am." We think it sounds too good to be true. So...an act. A mask. A false self. This is real IDENTITY THEFT.
There is no shame from God's end. We create our own. By doing so, we live in our own hell. What if it's all an illusion? I think it is. Truth says, "No more shame. No distance. No separation."
We now see what has been true all along: "God is nearer than my own skin. He is happy. He loves me...and even LIKES ME! I am whole and He is pleased!" Shame traded in for intoxication. A good deal, I would say. :)
